Nkhoma Synod Charity Golf targets K10 million

Vice-President Saulos Chilima yesterday led a field of golfers in a Charity Golf Tournament organised by Nkhoma Synod  of CCAP as  part of celebrations to mark 100 years of Chichewa Bible.

The event took place at the Lilongwe Golf Club.

Nkhoma Synod  general secretary the Reverend Vasco Kachipapa said they expect to raise K10 million towards the hosting of a series of activities to mark the occasion.

“We are grateful for the presence of the Vice-President Saulos Chilima who has added weight to this occasion. His presence has brought about prominent people who have supported us financially,” he said.

Kachipapa also thanked golfers and companies for supporting the cause.

“We are thankful for this support as it was organised on short notice, but the response has been overwhelming.  We are optimistic to raise the K10 million,” he said.

On his part, Chilima thanked companies and golfers for supporting the event, saying it is worthy cause as it will help spread the word of God.

“This is an important occasion and it is for a good cause. The Chichewa Bible has helped the indigenous people to understand the word of God. Our contributions today will still help spread the word of God. Thank you all,” he said.

On the golf course, the team of Gershon Chima and Powell Nkhutabasa emerged the winner with 48 points.

The Nkhoma Synod team one of Hassim Hamdan and Talib Hamdan finished second with 44 points.

Nico General Insurance team of Andrew Tembo and Dennis Mwakanika finished third  with 44 points

In his victory speech,Chima said they were proud to have won.

“This event is something we are proud to be associated with. We enjoyed our golf and the victory is much sweeter. We thank Nkhoma Synod and the Vice-President,” he said.

All winners were given copies of the bible and trophies.

Blantyre City South legislator Noel Lipipa bought a Bible at K400 000.

Chilima bought an accommodation and breakfast for K300 000 at Sigelege Holiday Resort in Salima.

Lilongwe Golf Club general manager Medson Roka has bought accommodation at Sunbird Ku Chawe in Zomba at K260 000.
